Electricity supply in Kerala

Kerala state is among the successful states of the country that are responsible for providing uninterrupted electric supply round the clock. The electricity board of Kerala which is Kerala State Electricity Board or KSEB is a public sector agency under the supervision of Government of Kerala that generates, distributes, and regulates the electricity supply in the state.

The electricity board was established in 1957 which was comes under the authority of the Department of Power. From March 1957, it was started working under the supervision of Kerala Government which has 5 members in the council and was headed by K.P Sreedhara Kaymal. During its inception, the total installed capacity of KSEB had 109.5 MW, with a total annual internal generation of 441.35 MU. Gradually as per the demands increased the board has managed to import the electricity from neighboring states and match the electricity requirements. As of 2008, the KSEB has a total installed capacity of State to 2657.24 MW and a consumer base of over 91,59,399.
