Transport Modes : Kerala

In order to match up the requirements of perfect tourist destination, the state Kerala has developed a good infrastructure for all the transport modes. The state hosts large number of tourists from all around the world throughout the year for which it has largest road network inside. Whether road or rail, Kerala is well connected by all important cities of the country inside and from other places.

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is main responsible for the development of road network inside the state. The KSTP is adhering to maintain and expand the state highways system and district roads. Kerala owns 8 national highways and the total length of roads in the state is around 173592 km.

The Southern railway zone of Indian railways is solely responsible for rail transport in the state. The railways have a wide network of trains that connects all major towns and cities.

In concern of Airways, the state Kerala owns three international airports at Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode connects the state with major cities of the country and from rest of the world. Due to extreme efficiency of backwaters in the states, Kerala has good waterways options inside that people uses for internal water transport which is managed by State Water Transport Department. Various water ports are also available in the state; among them one is major port and rest are non major ports.
